What if, instead of competing in the behavioral healthcare space, you created a new demand?

Nilda Perez • Dec 01, 2021

A new demand would take innovation to a whole other level.

Instead of just implementing a new idea, method, or technology, you created a new demand. Creating something that has never been thought of before clients know they need it. As Steve Jobs stated, "it's not the customer's job to know what they want."

It's time to stop looking back at what has worked for years and redirect to what things and customer experience can be. For that, organizations must be consistently and sustainably innovative. It is the only way to come out of this pandemic triumphant.

Innovation has transitioned from being fashionable and gimmicky to the only path to sustainability and survival. Behavioral healthcare has experienced firsthand a clear need to become more creative and find the best solutions to the existing problems.

There is no better way to do this but through developing great methodologies that are systemically innovative and that will position your differentiation. It's about being so distinctive that you create a new market space.

But for this, you will have to think differently. It's about creating such value that your clients won't believe they lived without your innovation. What you'd need to clarify is what this will look like in a behavioral healthcare setting.

You want to look at alternatives to behavioral healthcare. What is the replacement for behavioral health needs? Where would the average person go when they do not want the stigma of mental illness?

Getting to the core of this issue is where you will find your uncontested market space. It's about creating services or products that appeal to new market space. A customer base that would probably not come to you if you had not carved out this niche. And have become fully engaged because you discovered a need that they did not know they had.

The number of people needing mental health services has increased and will continue to do so, especially during this pandemic. Then there is no telling when the next crisis will hit. But instead of waiting for the next major crisis, it is best for behavioral healthcare to position itself for uncontested market space.

And you are doing this by creating a new wave of needs that won't compete with others in the industry but will position the organization as the trendsetter. And you are doing this by exploring all options even across industries and creating new demand.

Creating a new demand in behavioral healthcare is innovative. Behavioral healthcare has never-to-date created an innovative movement. And it's possible to do so if you have a strategy. This is what I am here for, to help you develop that strategy and position your organization for sustainability and success.
